题  目:Circuit Obfuscation for Hardware Security

Abstract:
With increasing outsourcing of hardware design and chip fabrication, and ever complicated supply-chain of hardware components, hardware security issues such as Trojan horses, piracy of designs, and unauthorized productions have become critical for chip design and manufacturing. Global piracy of hardware and software IP is now approaching $1B per day, with a major share in computers, peripherals, and embedded systems. Circuit obfuscation is a technique to hide the design while still provide the functionality, thus has a great potential to solve many of the above-mentioned issues.
In this talk, I will first introduce the concept of obfuscation, and some recent progresses on its theoretical foundation. Then, I will introduce our recent work on best-possible obfuscation of sequential circuits. We have identified a set of structural operations that are complete for best-possible obfuscation of sequential circuits. Based on the result, we proposed a circuit locking technique to ensure the obfuscated circuit will performed poorly when the key is not presented.

Bio:
Bio: Hai Zhou received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in computer science and technology from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, and the Ph.D. degree in computer science from the University of Texas at Austin, Austin. He is currently an Associate Professor of electrical engineering and computer science with the Northwestern University, Evanston, IL. His research interests include very large scale integration computer-aided design, algorithm design, and formal methods. Dr. Zhou was a recipient of the 2003 CAREER Award from the National Science Foundation.
